SCSO Tracks Suspect In Snow to Make Arrest

A Stephens County man is under arrest, charged in a weekend burglary.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office says that it arrested 25-year-old Devon Holder of Abbey Lane in Toccoa and charged him with one count of First Degree Burglary.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that it stems from a reported burglary early on Saturday on North Abbey Lane Court.

“At 2 o’clock Saturday morning, the suspect entered the sliding glass door and went in, was stealing some items from inside the home and was confronted by the occupants of the home, at which time he ran out the door,” said Shirley.

Shirley said deputies were able to quickly get a beat on the suspect thanks to something he left behind.

“It was snowing Friday evening and Saturday morning,” said Shirley. “The suspect lived in the neighborhood and once deputies had a good description of him, they noticed he left his tracks so they followed his tracks from the victim’s home to his home.”

Shirley also says that deputies, along the way, were able to recover the belongings of the suspect, including one of his shoes.

The sheriff said that at last report, Holder was in the Stephens County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
