SCSO Investigating Series of Entering Autos

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office said it is working a rash of “entering autos” in the middle and southeastern part of the county.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that his office is reminding homeowners to make sure their vehicles are locked.

Shirley said the thefts are generally one person who is walking in the late night to early morning hours checking for unlocked cars and taking anything of value including change.

The sheriff said people should always make sure their vehicle is locked, their car alarm engaged if one is equipped, and anything of value is secured in the home instead of the vehicle.

He said as an added deterrent, keep flood lights on, unless one has motion lights.

According to the sheriff, the more light surrounding a home, the more likely the thief will move on, and the lighting will assist deputies when they are patrolling the neighborhood.

Sheriff Shirley said that if anyone sees someone suspicious walking, get a very good description of him, and if an unfamiliar car is in the area get a very good description, and immediately call 911 Dispatch and stay on the line until deputies arrive.
