February 7, 2013

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office is reporting an arrest in connection to a recent vehicle theft.

Sheriff Randy Shirley said that on Sunday, deputies responded to the area of Big A Road in reference to a report of a stolen vehicle.

According to Shirley, the victim told deputies that he was inside his house watching TV when he heard his car crank up and drive off.

Shirley said that deputies requested a lookout on the vehicle, a 1994 Honda Accord, and adds that while deputies were checking the area, they found the vehicle and performed a traffic stop.

The sheriff reported that 23-year-old Phillip Chad Gerrells of Toccoa was arrested as a result of the stop and charged with the theft of the vehicle, along with DUI and driving with a suspended license.

Shirley said that Gerrells was in the Stephens County Jail at last report with a $13,100 bond.
