SCSO Arrests Man Wanted in Michigan

A Michigan man is in custody locally, awaiting possible extradition back to that state.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that on Thursday, his office received information from the Port Huron, Michigan Police Department that a person with warrants from their jurisdiction may be in Stephens County.

Shirley said that authorities in Michigan were looking for and had warrants on 29-year-old Wayne Thomas Brown II of Port Huron, Michigan for criminal sexual conduct with a person under the age of 13.

“Deputies began looking for him and located him at a residence in Martin, Georgia,” said Shirley. “Brown was arrested inside the home on Kimberly Drive without incident. Brown has been in Stephens County for approximately four days and is not suspected of any criminal activity here. He has been arrested on a local fugitive warrant that was taken out by our deputies.”

According to the sheriff, family connections in this area appear to have brought the suspect here.

Brown II is currently in the Stephens County Jail at last report and will remain there until an extradition hearing takes place in front of a judge.

Shirley said if Brown waives his extradition, police from Port Huron, Michigan will then travel to Stephens County to take custody of Brown.
