Final numbers are in for the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office’s participation in Operation Zero Tolerance over the holiday period.

The Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, participated in the annual “Operation Zero Tolerance” campaign from December 16, 2016 through January 4, 2017.

During “Operation Zero Tolerance,” the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit conducted multiple highway safety checkpoints along with concentrated patrol of Stephens County’s highways in attempts to deter speeders.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said it was very successful.

“During ‘Operation Zero Tolerance,’ the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office issued 67 citations, made 6 drug arrest, and two other felony arrests,” said Shirley. “Citations issued by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office included three for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 46 for speeding, 3 for seat belt violations, 2 suspended license and various other citations such as suspended registration, expired license, and texting while driving.”

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office also issued 154 warnings for various violations to include speeding, expired registration, and equipment violations.
