SCHS’s Lewis Takes 31st in State

A Stephens County High School runner finishes up her season at the state cross-country meet.

Stephens County High School sophomore Deanna Lewis finished 31st place out of 219 runners in the state AAAA girls’ cross-country meet Saturday in Carrollton.

Lewis had qualified for the state meet after winning the Region 8-AAAA meet last month in Flowery Branch.

In the team competition, Region 8-AAAA champion Chestatee finished third overall in the state.

Other Region 8-AAAA schools competing in the team competition included Lumpkin County, who finished 13th; Johnson of Gainesville, who finished 17th; and Lanier, who finished 25th.

Marist won the state AAAA team competition by placing its top five runners in the top eight positions overall.
