The Stephens County High School Lady Indian volleyball team starts its inaugural season off on a winning note.
Last Saturday, the Lady Indians took part in a Junior Varsity volleyball tournament at Eastside High School in Covington.
Saturday marked the first competitive tournament action for the Stephens County Lady Indian volleyball team, which is playing its first season this year.
Each match was best-of-three sets. In the first two sets, the team that reaches 25 points first wins. In the third set, the winner is the first team to score 15.
During the day of play, the Lady Indians won four of their five matches, marking the first wins in the program’s history.
In their first match against Newton County, the Lady Indians won two sets to one. In that match, Stephens County took the first set, 25-23, then lost the second set, 23-25, before taking the third and deciding set, 15-13.
Stephens County lost its second match to host Eastside, two sets to one. The Lady Indians lost the first set, 18-25, then won the second set, 25-21, before falling in the third set, 11-15.
In its third match against Heritage, Stephens County won two sets to none, taking the first set, 25-16, and the second set, 25-13.
The Lady Indians also swept their fourth match against Monroe Area High School, two sets to none, winning 25-9 and 25-12.
Then in the final match, the Lady Indians swept Alcovy, two sets to none, winning the sets 25-20 and 25-12, respectively.
Lady Indian Volleyball Head Coach Michael Thomas said he is very pleased and proud of the girls for how well they played during each match on Saturday.
Stephens County is back on the volleyball court next on August 25.
The Lady Indian volleyball team is playing a JV schedule only in this, its inaugural season.
