SCHS Students Nominated For West Point

Two Stephens County High School students are in the running to receive an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

It was announced this week that A.J. Howard and Nikhil Patel were nominated by 9th District U.S. Representative Doug Collins to attend West Point.

Many high school students in the 9th District apply each year to attend a service academy, but only a small number are selected to receive a nomination.

Receiving a nomination means that Congressman Collins and West Point have determined that both Howard and Patel are in the top tier of applicants who are eligible to compete for appointments to West Point.

Only a few high school students will be awarded appointments to West Point in the coming months.

Collins’ office said congressional nomination is the rigorous first step to admission in the service academies, which ultimately includes character, scholarship, leadership, physical, and medical assessments by the academies.
