SCHS Splits Home Basketball With Elbert Co.

The Stephens County Lady Indian basketball team breaks a two-game slide.

Saturday, the Lady Indians edged Elbert County in non-region basketball play at the Currahee Arena, 50-43.

Mya Cleveland had 19 points to lead the Lady Indians, while Kentasia Trimier also scored in double figures with 10 points. Lexie Cash and Kaitlin Knight each scored nine points for Stephens County.

Jimera Hill led the Lady Devils with 12 points.

Moving to the boys’ game, Stephens County fell behind by 14 in the first half, but fought all the way back only to have Elbert County pull away at the start of the fourth quarter and win 55-50 over the Indians.

Tarveil Fortson hit three three-pointers at the start of the fourth quarter to push Elbert in front by double digits, creating a hole Stephens County could not climb out of.

Fortson had 18 points to lead the Blue Devils.

Deandre Singleton had 16 points to lead the Indians and Tay Jones chipped in with 12 points.

The win moves the Lady Indians to 10-10 overall, while the Indians drop to 5-15 overall with the loss.

Stephens County basketball returns to Region 8-AAAA play with a home game Tuesday against White County.

The girls will tip off Tuesday at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
