SCHS Soccer Teams Kick Cancer, Split Doubleheader

Stephens County High School’s soccer teams come together to help kick cancer.

Tuesday, both the Lady Indians and Indians wore pink jerseys in their soccer games against Region 8-AAAA opponent White County.

It was the annual “Pink Game” to promote cancer awareness.

Stephens County Boys’ Soccer Coach Derek Demmler said that they had a good crowd turn out to both support the soccer program and help fight cancer.

“We had more people here tonight than we had at past games, which was nice to see the community support,” said Demmler. “$1 came out of every ticket went to Relay for Life, which is going to help them out. Everything we can do to eliminate that disease (cancer) is worth it.”

In the first game of the girls’ and boys’ doubleheader, Stephens County’s Lady Indians lost to White County by a score of 4-1.

Then in the nightcap, the Stephens County Indian boys fell behind 1-0 in the second half, but got a late goal to tie it at 1 and force overtime.

Neither team scored in the overtime, which meant the game went to a penalty kick shootout.

In the penalty kick shootout, the Indians outscored White County 4-2 to win the game by a 5-3 margin.
