SCHS Runner Qualifies for State Cross Country Meet

A Stephens County High School Lady Indian cross-country runner will compete at the state competition.

Deanna Lewis finished sixth place in last week’s Region 8-AAAA cross-country meet at Unicoi State Park in White County.

Lewis finished the race in a time of 20 minutes, 11 seconds.

That put her less than two minutes behind the Region 8-AAAA champion, White County’s Jenna Gearing, who finished in 18 minutes, 39.60 seconds.

Stephens County’s Lady Indians finished seventh as a team at the region cross-country meet.

Other top finishers for Stephens County were Mckayla Adams in 45th place, Nicole Collier in 48th place, Kaylee Vanderhoef in 49th place, Gracie Frazier in 52nd place, and Claudia Duran in 53rd place.

Taking the team region girls’ title was North Oconee.

White County finished second, North Hall finished third, and Johnson finished fourth.

As for the Stephens County Indian boys’ cross-country team, they finished eighth in the region meet as a team.

Top finishers for the Indian boys were Austin Garcia in 45th place, Cooper Long in 50th place, Amezquita Cesar in 51st place, Braxton Gore in 53rd place, Braxton Lawrence in 54th place, Edward Pelles in 55th place, and Jimmy Carter in 56th place.
