SCHS Hoops Splits With Chestatee

The Stephens County Lady Indians had another lead heading into the fourth quarter, but could not hold on against Chestatee Tuesday night in basketball action at the Currahee Arena.

After leading the Lady War Eagles of Chestatee for three quarters, Chestatee outscored Stephens County 13-6 in the final period and left with a 41-35 win. Chestatee took the lead one minute into the fourth quarter and never trailed after that.

Whitleigh Swinton had nine points for Stephens County. Meagan Kenimer led Chestatee with 18 points and Erin Clifford had 13.

Chestatee’s girls are now 4-1 on the season and the Lady Indians are now 1-4.

Meanwhile, the Stephens County boys had better luck in their game against Chestatee.

The Indians raced out to a 22-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 75-50 win over the War Eagles.

Four Indians were in double figures. Cody Helgeland and Tavoris Davis each had 17 points, while Tomas Colbert and Fred Smith had 10 points apiece. Keelan Passmore led the War Eagles with 17 points.

The Indian boys are now 4-1 on the season, while Chestatee drops to 2-3.

Stephens County will host the Hart County Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs Friday night at the Currahee Arena. Tip-off time is 7 p.m. and air time on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com is set for 6:45 p.m.
