SCHS Football Getting Ready to Start Practice

Final summer preparations are underway before Fall football practice gets started at Stephens County High School.

Indians’ Head Football Coach Frank Barden said that the team has done a great job with its summer workouts for the past several weeks.

“Our kids have done a good job getting in the weight room and getting in the conditioning program,” said Barden. “It carried over from the winter because Coach Gentry had them in the winter time working at a high level.”

“It is important we carry that over to the grass and this Fall,” said Barden.

Barden said that the team begins its acclimation practices on Monday and then a week after that on August 1, it begins practices in pads.

He said they are ready to get started.

“It is a fun time for us as far as preparing for a new season, the excitement of a new season,” said Barden. “The kids have done well.”

Barden went on to say that school starting so early in August will change how the team utilizes its time getting ready for the start of the season.

He said that will require more things in the afternoons possibly and said they would have to find out what works best for them.

The Stephens County High School football team will scrimmage White County on August 12 and begins the regular season against Franklin County on August 26.
