SCHS Basketball Sweeps Monroe Area in Region Play on Road

The Stephens County Indian and Lady Indian basketball teams picked up a pair of key region wins on the road at Monroe Area Tuesday night.

The Lady Indians used a big third quarter to pull away from the Lady Purple Hurricanes and win 54-33. Lexie Cash and Mya Cleveland each had 12 points for Stephens County, while Emily Mote added eight points.

The Lady Indians are now 9-15 overall and 5-2 in Region 8-AAAA.

In the boys’ game, Stephens County overcame a 17-point deficit in the third quarter and picked up a huge region victory, beating Monroe Area 60-56.

Cody Helgeland and Fred Smith had 16 points each, while Kamichi Fleming scored 10 points.

The Indians are now 14-10 overall and 3-4 in Region 8-AAAA.

Stephens County wraps up the regular season at home Thursday against Lumpkin County. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. and airtime on AM 630 WNEG is set for 5:45 p.m.
