SCHS Basketball Splits Region Opener

The Stephens County Lady Indians open Region 8-AAAA play with a home win.

Mya Cleveland hit two free throws with about 15 seconds left and Kentasia Trimier stole the ball away on Chestatee’s last possession as the Lady Indians won 42-39 over the Lady War Eagles Friday night at the Currahee Arena.

Emily Mote had 12 points to lead the Lady Indians, while Cleveland added 11 points and Lexie Cash scored eight points.

Tyler Bennett led the Lady War Eagles with 18 points.

Moving to the boys’ game, it was Chestatee making the big free throws as Jordan Pulliam hit two with 2.2 seconds left to give the War Eagles a 51-49 win over the Indians.

DeAndre Singleton missed a three at the buzzer that would have given the Indians the win.

Pulliam had 15 points, 13 of them in the second half, to lead Chestatee. Caleb Jameson and Hunter Creamer each added 13 points for the War Eagles.

Chris Jones scored 11 points, all in the first half, to lead the Indians. Tay Jones and DeAndre Singleton each added nine points for Stephens County.

The Lady Indians are now 8-8 overall and 1-0 in region play, while the Indian boys drop to 5-11 overall and 0-1 in the region.

Stephens County steps back out of region play for its next game on Tuesday when the Indians and Lady Indians will visit Elbert County.

The girls’ game Tuesday will tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys’ game to follow.
