School System Gives Annual Report

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey delivers the school system’s annual report.

The annual report forum took place Tuesday at the Gate Cottage on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

In the report, the school system reviews information like test scores and demographics, as well as other information about the school system.

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey said the annual report allows the school system to show what its students have accomplished and can accomplish.

“We just have great opportunities in Stephens County schools and in Stephens County as a community,” said Dorsey. “I think we need to be taking advantage of those opportunities to show our kids that they can do well and excel right here.”

Each year, the event is sponsored by the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee.

Chamber Education Committee Co-Chair Greg Pitts said he was pleased with what he heard.

“It continues to confirm what we know and that is that there are a lot of wonderful things going on in our school system,” said Pitts. “We have outstanding teachers and educators.”

Pitts pointed to Stephens County’s performances on test scores compared to the region and state.

This was Dorsey’s first annual report as Superintendent.

He said it is a great chance to communicate with other community leaders.

“It is something we enjoy doing and are glad to have the support of many of our organizations in the community, and the Rotary and Chamber are certainly two of those,” said Dorsey. “It is always good to be able to bring an update, directly meet with people, answer their questions, and they hopefully feel and see our excitement about the opportunities we have as a staff to work with our students.”

The annual school system report also takes place in conjunction with a regular meeting of the Toccoa Rotary Club.
