School System Annual Report Presented

Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey uses his annual school system report to focus on what’s possible and what’s next.

Dorsey delivered this year’s annual report on Tuesday at the Gate Cottage on the campus of Toccoa Falls College.

During the report, Dorsey talked about a number of the highlights of the last year in the school system, ranging from the system’s financial position that he says is much improved to achievements of clubs, teams, and students throughout the system.

Dorsey said great things are happening in Stephens County classrooms and to help illustrate that, he brought a number of teachers and students with him to talk about their experiences in Stephens County schools.

The superintendent said he wanted those in attendance to hear about those positives and the students, faculty, and staff behind them.

“I think it just brings back a highlight opportunity for us all to look back at some of the challenges and acknowledge some of the challenges that we have when we are talking about providing a quality education for our students,” said Dorsey. “This is just one of those vehicles that allows us a great mechanism to get out and share our story and make sure people see more than just the headlines that we are all interested in, that we need to know, but to bring some personalization to what we are really here for, which are our students and making sure they are getting a quality education.”

Each year, the event is sponsored by the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee.

Chamber Education Committee Chair Greg Pitts said it is one of his favorite events because people get to hear about the great things going on in the schools.

“I love what Superintendent Dorsey did with the students and teachers today, gave them an opportunity to express the pride that they have in the education they are getting,” said Pitts. “There is no doubt that if you want to get a good education in the Stephens County school system, you can do that.”

This was the 12th annual School System Report Forum.

It is held each year in conjunction with a meeting of the Toccoa Rotary Club.
