An interior addition is in place at the Schaefer Center in downtown Toccoa.

Crews have been installing the movie screen and projector for the facility at the corner of Broad and Doyle streets.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said this will be a permanent set-up.

“The screen is in place,” said Crosby. “It covers the entire stage. So when people go in, they will feel like they are actually in a movie theater.”

Crosby said the city is excited.

“We think this will really enhance our Schaefer Center and the things we are able to do there,” said Crosby.

City commissioners approved the purchase of the screen and projector last month at a cost of $20,639.13 from Edmonson Technology in Winterville, Georgia.

Previously, the city had rented the screen and projector, but officials say that company was no longer in business, so the city decided to go the route of purchasing one.

Crosby said the city will use the new screen and projector to again show movies in the Schaefer Center during the summer months as it did last year.

“They will just be $1 for the movies for admission and the concessions will be $1,” said Crosby. “We have a fun lineup coming.”

Crosby said the summer movies will be on Thursday nights starting on June 4.

The lineup for June is as follows:

June 4 – Paddington
June 11 – Guardians of the Galaxy
June 18 – Maleficent
June 25 – Alexander and the Terrible, No Good, Horrible, Very Bad Day

Summer movies at the Schaefer Center will then run through July.
