SCDA Holds December Meeting

The Stephens County Development Authority wraps up its calendar year.

The Development Authority board met Tuesday morning for its final scheduled monthly meeting of 2014.

Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin says that the board voted during the meeting to authorize the board chair to sign a memorandum of understanding and deed conveyance in connection to the GEM, or ASI, Industries’ expansion in Stephens County.

“This just facilitates that expansion,” said Martin. “The land that it sits on is titled in the name of the Stephens County Development Authority.”

The groundbreaking for that expansion, along with the announcement of the pending name change of GEM Industries to ASI Industries, all took place at an event last week at GEM’s Clary Connector location.

Also on Tuesday, the Development Authority recognized both Toccoa Mayor Gail Fry and Stephens County Commission Chairman Dean Scarborough for their service to the Development Authority.

Fry and Scarborough serve in their positions as Mayor and County Commission Chair respectively and the city and county commissions are slated to vote on those positions in the coming weeks.
