Time is running out to get in on this year’s Toccoa Main Street Scarecrow Contest.
According to Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby, the deadline to apply to be a part of the judged Scarecrow Contest this year is Friday at 5 p.m.
Crosby said anyone interested in participating can pick up an application from the Main Street office at Toccoa City Hall or download one from the Main Street website at www.mainstreettoccoa.com.
“There is no fee for the application but you will receive a place on the listing so people will know where to come to see your scarecrow and then also, we will give you a sign to put in front of your scarecrow so people will be able to identify which ones are a part of the contest,” said Crosby.
The contest does include a $150 first prize, $75 second prize, and a $50 third prize.
Voting will be done online or at various local businesses and the winners will be announced on November 4.
According to Crosby, the city is looking for the scarecrows to be up from next weekend through the first weekend of November.
“We do want to have everything in place for Currahee Military Weekend because we will be having many visitors,” said Crosby. “We will also be having visitors for the Southern Living home, so we would like to have the whole county decorated.”
The contest is open to all of StephensCounty and Crosby said they are hoping to have a lot of participation this year.
She added that the contest is not limited to businesses or non-profit groups.
“This year, we are doing something different,” said Crosby. “We are including families as well.”
