Scam Report in Stephens Co.

Another scam appears to be making the rounds in Stephens County and northeast Georgia.

Stephens County Clerk of Court Tim Quick said he received word of an attempted scam recently.

Quick said the scam involves someone calling and pretending to be from the Internal Revenue Service.

“Somebody is calling and saying they are from the IRS,” said Quick. “They are claiming there is something wrong with your taxes and of course, they are wanting some money from you. It is completely 100 percent a scam. The IRS never calls on the phone. They always send a letter first.”

Quick said the phone number from which the call originated in the report he received was 585-364-6540.

People who receive a call like the one Quick has described should contact their local law enforcement agency.

He said that authorities are investigating the call that was reported to him.
