SC Development Authority Annual Report

The Stephens County Development Authority gives their Annual Report.

Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin gave his annual report to the Toccoa City Commission during their meeting on Monday and to the Stephens County Commission during their meeting on Tuesday.

Martin says within the past year there has been success with International companies. He gave updates to the Commissions on those companies. “Nifko KTW has their certificate of occupancy. They are installing, equipment is coming in regularly” says Martin; “They have about a dozen local employees and 8-10 German nationals in the building making sure all is ready to go. They are scheduled to send their first product to BMW late Summer/early Fall, then the hiring surge should take place toward the end of the year or first of 2017.”

Martin also gave an update on the progress of Sark Wire, the company from Istanbul, Turkey. “They too are already growing and working with a local contractor to build an addition to their facility that will house the support for an additional line, and we are absolutely thrilled about that.”

Martin lauded the existing companies in Stephens County saying that many are “expanding and growing” and updated both commissions on those companies. Martin also spoke on the expansion of the sanitary/sewer system, a project 10 years in the making, improvements in the SCDA website and the increased number of eyes that go there, and recognition this year for their successes from peers and publications. “Area Development, one of the premier economic development journals has named the Nifko KTW project as one of the top 10 projects in Georgia. Site Selection magazine recognized the SCDA as the “Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development” as one of the top 10 development agencies in the Micropolitan category. Says Martin; “Most significantly the Georgia Economic Development Association recognized the Nifco KTW project as “The Deal Of The Year” in the state of Georgia so quite proud of that.” Martin told both the Toccoa City Commission and the Stephens County Commission that these things could not be accomplished without the cooperation and support of the City and County and their employees.
