Saturday Accident Sends Four To Hospital

A two-vehicle accident over the weekend in Stephens County sends four people to the hospital with injuries.

It happened at the intersection of the new State Route 17 and State Route 328 on Saturday at 12:44 p.m.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2002 Toyota Camry driven by 19-year-old Nikelsha Lafariel Owens of Martin was traveling north on State Route 17 in the left lane while a a 2009 Pontiac G6 driven by 58-year-old Jerry Haymond of Toccoa was traveling east on State Route 328 attempting to cross over State Route 17.

The report from the GSP stated that the Pontiac pulled out in front of the Toyota and was struck on the right side by the Toyota.

Following the collision, both vehicles came to rest on State Route 17 northbound.

According to the report, Haymond was not injured, but three passengers in the Pontiac, 52-year-old Sarah Frances Haymond of Toccoa, 59-year-old Patricia Haymond Trimiar of Cornelia, and 66-year-old Betty Jo Holloway of Toccoa, were all transported by Stephens County EMS to Stephens County Hospital with what troopers called non-incapacitating injuries.

Owens, the driver of the Camry, was also transported by Stephens County EMS to Stephens County Hospital with what was described as a non-incapacitating injury.
