Sage Automotive Investing in S. Carolina Plants

A company with Stephens County ties is investing money in two plants in South Carolina.

According to a report from GSA Business, Sage Automotive Interiors is investing $4 million in its two plants in Abbeville County, South Carolina.

GSA Business says that the company with headquarters at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research is investing in equipment and technology upgrades to position the Abbeville County operations for future growth, according to a statement from the company.

A company spokesman declined to comment to GSA Business on the prospect of jobs being added at the two plants.

GSA Business reports that the phased expansion is expected to start later this year.

Sage Automotive Interiors develops and manufactures automotive body cloth that is used in seating, door panel surfaces, and headliners.

It formed in 2009 when Azalea Capital of Greenville completed its acquisition of Milliken and Company’s automotive body cloth division.

Last year, Clearlake Capital Group purchased Sage for an undisclosed sum from the Gores Group.

Sage has a location on Highway 17 in Stephens County, between Toccoa and Martin.
