Rotary Club Honors Lifeguard

The mother of a child who nearly drowned last week at the Doyle Street Pool last week says her child is doing very well.

She says the child came home last week and has recovered from the incident, which occurred during the early afternoon hours of June 22 at the pool in Toccoa.

In the incident, the mother says she had to pull her child from the pool and officials say a lifeguard then performed CPR on the child.

Tuesday, that lifeguard, Natalie Sams, was recognized by the Toccoa Rotary Club.

The Very Rev. Mary Demmler with the Toccoa Rotary Club said they are proud to present Sams with recognition for her efforts last week.

“Last week, she not only made sure everybody was safe generally in the pool, but she was the lifeguard who helped to rescue a three-year-old little girl,” she said.

The child’s mother says she appreciates everything Sams did, as well as the support they have received from the entire community.
