Roads In Fairly Good Shape After Snow Ends in Stephens Co.

A winter storm warning is over, but a winter weather advisory remains in effect for Stephens County through 10 a.m. today.

Precipitation has moved out of the area, but the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg said there are concerns over black ice and refreezing of roadways until temperatures begin rising later this morning.

Snow began falling late Wednesday afternoon, mixing some throughout the night in downtown Toccoa.

That created roadways covered in snow and slush, leading to the concerns over ice.

In all, about 2 inches of snow and wintry precipitation is on the ground this morning in downtown Toccoa, though totals may vary.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said roads appear to be in fairly good condition this morning.

“Main roads are good,” said Shirley. “Some the rural roads are in fair condition with some slushing that is slowly melting.”

Meanwhile, Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said the city’s roads are in good condition, though some of the side streets are still being worked on and could be slick.

Temperatures are expected to rise throughout the day today.
