Residents Ask About Paving Lovell Road, Lovell Circle

Multiple residents on one city street in Toccoa want to know when their road will be paved.

Over the last two city commission meetings, citizens have asked Toccoa commissioners about Lovell Road and Lovell Circle and the possibility of getting those roads re-surfaced.

Herman Prather said it has been years since anything has been done to either of those roads.

“I have been on Lovell Circle for 30 years and it has never been re-paved or striped,” said Prather. “There are two roads that intersect our street, Yearwood Street and Fowlertown Road, they have both been re-paved.”

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said that both Yearwood Street and Fowlertown Road that Prather mentioned are county roads.

However, both Lovell Road and Lovell Circle are city streets and Morse said the city is aware of the need for re-surfacing on both of those roads.

“We have a priority list of roads to be re-surfaced and Lovell Road and Lovell Circle are at the top of that list, so we are actively collecting SPLOST funds to re-surface those roads,” said Morse. “That probably will not happen in this calendar year, but probably will come up for discussion in 2017 for re-surfacing.”

Morse said the city plans to wait until it can collect enough funds in SPLOST VI for re-surfacing to do a larger re-surfacing effort, instead of just a couple of streets.

For the time being, Morse said he did have city crews go to Lovell Road and Lovell Circle and fix some utility cuts on those roads, which should help the situation.
