Resident Asking Stephens Co. To Take Over Road

A Stephens County resident wants the county to take over a private road in the county.

Bobby Dean appeared before Stephens County Commissioners on Tuesday regarding having the county to take over Infantry Private Drive.

That is a gravel road that is located off of Davis Road.

Dean lives on the road and said that the residents on Infantry Private Drive need assistance when it comes to the condition of the road.

“About 14 years ago when we all bought down there, we were told by them that it would be turned over to the county and taken over,” said Dean. “We would like to get it where we will not have a problem with fire trucks coming up in there, post service delivering to us, and make it easier on our kids to where the school buses could come up in there.”

Currently, the school buses pick up the students at the end of the road.

Stephens County Commission Chair Dennis Bell said he is not sure if a fire truck or ambulance could get up the road if it needed to, let alone a school bus.

Bell said the road is in terrible shape and needs to be looked at.

“It does need some work on it,” said Bell. “You do not have to go far to see that.”

Stephens County Commissioners requested that Dean begin working with the county and helping to acquire 60 foot right of way deeds to start the process for the county to look at taking over the roadway.
