Local Relay for Life efforts will kick off their yearly campaign with an event this week.
The 2013 Stephens County Relay for Life kick-off event will take place on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Cheek Hall at Toccoa First United Methodist Church.
This year’s Relay for Life in Stephens County is set for May 17 at Stephens County High School and Local American Cancer Society Community Manager Tracey Long said that this Thursday’s event is a great way to start off the year’s fundraising efforts.
“We have all kinds of people (there),” said Long. “We have people on teams, team captains, survivors, caregivers, anyone that wants to (can come). It is a community event. We have food, fun, entertainment, and then of course we talk about the Relay, all of the things we have upcoming for the May 17 date. It is just a good time to get together and really kick off our event.”
Long said everyone is invited to attend and adds that organizers hope to see a good turnout.
She explained that Thursday’s kick-off event is also a great way for someone to learn more about getting involved with Relay for Life.
“We want anyone,” said Long. “They can be just an individual that wants to do something. There is no one too small that they cannot do something to help.”
Relay for Life is the signature fund-raising event for the American Cancer Society.
