Region Basketball Starting Today After Delay

Winter weather delays the start of the Region 8-AAAA basketball tournaments.

Officials postponed the girls’ region quarterfinals on Tuesday due to winter weather in areas of the region.

All of those girls’ quarterfinal games will now be played today, along with the boys’ quarterfinals, which were scheduled for today all along.

That means both the Stephens County boys and girls will be in action on the basketball court tonight.

The Indian boys will play at Buford against Monroe Area at 5:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal game.

That game time was moved to accommodate four games scheduled for today at Buford as that school is hosting both boys’ and girls’ quarterfinal play.

Meanwhile, the Lady Indian basketball team will play Madison County at North Oconee High School tonight at 6 p.m.

If the Lady Indians and/or the Indian boys win their quarterfinal games tonight, they will advance to the region semi-finals on Friday, which are being hosted by Stephens County High School at the Currahee Arena in Toccoa.

Making the region semi-finals also guarantees a team a berth in the state basketball tournament.

AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com will air the boys’ game tonight at 5:30 p.m. as the Indians play Monroe Area at Buford.

Air time tonight is about 5:20 p.m.
