Region 8-AAAA Eliminated From State Football Playoffs

All of Region 8-AAAA’s remaining state playoff football teams see their seasons come to a close in the second round.

Region champion Monroe Area, along with Chestatee and Lanier, all lost in the second round of the state AAAA football playoffs on Friday night to teams from Region 5-AAAA.

Monroe Area lost to Carrollton 44-27 at home, Chestatee went on the road and fell to Sandy Creek 55-7, and Lanier lost to Alexander 42-28 at home in a battle of teams that won on the road in the first round.

Meanwhile, the team that ended StephensCounty’s season, Marist, is also into the final eight after beating Gilmer 38-0.

This coming week will feature quarterfinal play for the eight remaining AAAA teams.

Marist plays Burke County, Griffin faces Sandy Creek, Carrollton plays Stockbridge, and Alexander will play Wayne County.
