Red Cross Needs Holiday Blood Donations

The American Red Cross said that blood and platelet donations are needed throughout the holiday season.

According to the Red Cross, busy holiday schedules and travel plans make it more challenging for regular donors to give, and many businesses and organizations postpone holding blood drives during the holiday season for these same reasons.

Red Cross officials said that this can lead to a decline in blood donations, even though the need is constant.

The Red Cross said that donors of all blood types are needed.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood or platelets to the American Red Cross, use the free Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Individuals who are at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health are eligible to donate blood. Also, those 16 years of age can donate with parental consent in most states.
