Railroad Work Closing Currahee St. Intersection

Traffic on Currahee Street in Toccoa will be affected by maintenance on a railroad crossing this coming week.

Georgia Department of Transportation Spokesperson Teri Pope said Hartwell Railroad has planned to do some work on a railroad crossing on Currahee Street today and tomorrow.

“The crossing is West Currahee Street near the intersection of Meeks and Fig Streets,” said Pope, who added the work will close the intersection.

Pope went on to say that there will be a signed detour route.

“That is 365 to Highway 63/106 to Highway 17 and back to 365/Currahee Street,” said Pope.

Pope said that Hartwell Railroad is responsible for doing all of the actual work, as well as the lane closures.

She said that if the work finishes early, the lanes will re-open early as well.
