Federal agents arrest a Rabun County man on child pornography charges after an international investigation that took place over the course of nearly one year.

According to court documents, authorities in New Zealand began investigating 35 year old Christopher Welcher, a Rabun County resident, in connection to child pornography back in July of 2014.

The authorities in New Zealand contacted the FBI and GBI, and following their investigation, a search warrant was issued and executed on Friday, June 19th at Welcher’s residence on Buckhorn Circle just to the north of the Rabun County/Habersham County line.

There, agents found two external hard drives, one of which contained more than a quarter million images of child and adult pornography.

During the search, Welcher reportedly admitted to GBI Agents he possessed child pornography and was the man behind the online account authorities had been investigating.
