Rabies Case Reported in Stephens Co.

Toccoa-Stephens County Animal Control reports that a sixth confirmed case of rabies in October was found in a dead raccoon in the Persimmon Street area of Stephens County last week.

The rabid raccoon was found dead on October 23, according to a resident in that area.

The resident states that their dog found the raccoon.

The dog had been vaccinated for rabies and is being monitored with the proper treatment as a precautionary measure.

The resident states they are also going through preventative treatment as a precautionary measure after having contact with the dog after it had found the raccoon.
