Qualifying Underway in Stephens Co. Municipalities

A number of incumbents have filed for re-election for municipal elections in Toccoa and Martin.

First in Toccoa, City Clerk Fredda Wheeler says that Terry Carter qualified to run for re-election to Post 1 of the City Commission and Gail Fry qualified to run for re-election to Post 4.

No other candidates had qualified as of 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

City Commissioner David Austin has said he would run for re-election to Post 2.

Moving to Martin, Stephens County Probate Judge Glenda Ernest says that Don Foster has qualified to run for re-election as Mayor, while Mark Gearhart and Harold Alexander have both qualified for re-election as council members in Martin.

They are the only candidates to qualify so far in Martin.

Qualifying for both the Toccoa and Martin municipal elections continues through Friday.

In Toccoa, candidates wishing to qualify for one of the three seats up for election this year should see Toccoa City Clerk Fredda Wheeler at Toccoa City Hall.

Candidates can qualify from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through Friday.

The qualifying fee is $252.

For Martin, qualifying will also run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today through Friday for the mayor’s seat and two council member seats at the Stephens County Probate and Registrar’s Office, located in Room 108 downstairs in the Stephens County Government Building in downtown Toccoa.

The qualifying fee for mayor is $120 and the qualifying fee for council member is $90.
