Qualifying Still Going on for Local Races

The third day of qualifying in Stephens County brought no additional candidates into the fold for local races.

Nobody has qualified for any county office since Tuesday afternoon.

Qualifying continues today until 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office, located in the Stephens County Courthouse Annex on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.

At the state and federal level, only one additional candidate announced an intention to run on Wednesday.

That is former U.S. Representative Paul Broun, who said he would run for the 9th District U.S. House seat currently held by Doug Collins.

Broun formerly represented Stephens County and other areas in northeast Georgia when they were in the 10th Congressional District.

Broun, who has previously lived in Watkinsville, says he is moving to Habersham County to be in the 9th District.

While he has stated his intention to run, Broun had not qualified with the Secretary of State’s office as of Wednesday afternoon.

State and federal qualifying ends Friday at noon in Atlanta.
