Projects Moving Forward in Royston

The city of Royston is moving ahead with a couple of construction projects this spring.

At its regular meeting this month, City Manager Ed Andrews gave the Royston City Council an update.

The first project is the renovation of the train depot.

Andrews said they expect to begin the actual work next month.

“The depot is cleaned out and is being prepared for construction next month,” Andrews said. “That will happen as soon as we get a contractor on board and I’m going through that process with the engineers now.”

Andrews said there has been a lot of interest in the depot renovation project from area business owners.

In fact, he said a couple have offered to donate supplies.

“Two business owners have already called and expressed their interest in donating any materials or supplies to put toward the depot project,” Andrews said. “So the word is getting out from the Depot Committee and that is a good example to follow. I appreciate that from the Depot Committee.”

According to Andrews, another project moving forward in Royston is the Streetscape project on Bowers Street.

The plan is to mesh the Bowers Street project with the two previous streetscape projects by repaving Bowers Street and putting in new sidewalks and curbing.

Andrews said he expects that project to take about 10 weeks to complete.
