Progress Continues At ASI Expansion

ASI Southeast’s ongoing expansion in Stephens County is on pace to open before next March.

In a press release Tuesday, the company says that over 91,000 cubic yards of dirt and a fair amount of rock have been moved and construction has been underway since earlier this year on the 112,000 square foot building.

Stephens County Development Authority Chairman Brian Akin said it is exciting to see that building move ever closer to completion.

“It is absolutely great news,” said Akin. “It is always exciting to see a local company investing a company and expanding their operations. ASI has certainly been very successful in Toccoa and Stephens County and we want to do everything at the Development Authority to make sure that success continues. We just look forward to seeing that project come to full fruition.”

The company broke ground on the building back in December 2014 at its Clary Connector location.

According to company officials last year, the expansion represents a $10 million investment and will create about 25 new jobs.

J. Davis Construction is building the new building.

J. Davis President Joel Davis said he and his company were honored to be selected for this project.

Davis added that the entire process from starting the design through working with all of the governing agencies has been a great experience.

ASI Southeast Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Doug Hitchon said the company is proud to be working with the J. Davis company on the new expansion as the company continues its growth in Toccoa and Stephens County.

Hitchon went on to say that ASI echoes J. Davis’s statements about the city and county government locally, calling them strong partners for ASI.

ASI Southeast manufactures and distributes washroom accessories, toilet partitions, and lockers and employ over 1,000 people, with the largest group of those employees being located in Stephens County.

The company is formerly known as Gem Industries.
