Prescribed Burn Today in Stephens Co.

The U.S. Forest Service is conducting a prescribed burn today in Stephens County.

According to the Forest Service, the burn is taking place over about 734 acres in the Pear Orchard area of the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area, about halfway between Cornelia and Toccoa.

The purpose of the burn is fuel reduction to reduce the threat of dangerous wildfires and improve wildlife habitat.
