Organizers are preparing for the annual Veterans’ Day Observance in Stephens County.
The event is next Monday at 11 a.m. on the historic Stephens County Courthouse lawn in downtown Toccoa.
Stephens County’s American Legion Post 104, Marine Corps Detachment 1303, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4346 are sponsoring the event again this year.
The emphasis of the program is to honor living veterans and active duty military.
American Legion Post 104 Adjutant William Tucker said that this year, the program will once again include special honors by other patriotic and civic organizations.
“We are asking other organizations who normally are part of the program to do something in honor of veterans, something either locally, or a veterans’ hospital, something like that,” said Tucker.
He said ideas for that include presenting a flag to a local school or making a donation to another organization or military unit.
Tucker also said that organizations doing something to honor veterans can let him know no later than Thursday and they will be recognized publicly in the program.
