An annual Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner takes place this weekend in Toccoa.
The annual Sandra Wheeler Harbin Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner takes place Sunday at the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club on Whitman Street in Toccoa.
The dinner starts at 1 p.m. and is open to seniors age 55 and older.
Randolph Sherman is an organizer of the event and encourages all seniors to come out.
He said that during the dinner, they will also take time to honor a group that helped start the dinner years ago.
“During the latter part of the dinner, we will be honoring the group that really pioneered this dinner back in probably the early 80s,” said Sherman. “It was a ladies’ social group called the CHICS, Community Helpers in Christian Service. They did many things in the community in that time. This is one of them.”
Following the dinner at 2:30 p.m., the Boys and Girls Club will play host to the Wendell Jackson Sherman Memorial Gospel Concert.
Sherman said everyone is invited to attend the concert.
“We have great groups coming into sing with us this time,” said Sherman. “We are just looking to have a good time.”
Groups scheduled to perform include the Wendell Sherman Chorale, the Maple Springs Male Chorus, Friendship Baptist Church, Crossroad Baptist Church, and Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
There is no cost to attend the dinner or the concert.
