Pre-Job Fair Event in Lavonia Tuesday
With a job fair coming up later this month in Stephens County, the Georgia Department of Labor is offering an opportunity tomorrow for area job seekers to do a little advance preparation.
The event is called the Northeast Georgia Talent Attraction Kick-off and it is taking place Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lavonia.
Department of Labor Toccoa Career Center Manager Greg Pitts said the event is a great way to get ready for the job fair coming up September 27th at the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Technical College.
“It is to prepare people for the job fair, to have them be ready to go in and be successful during the job fair,” said Pitts. “They will have some excellent instructors on hand. This is really a wonderful event for people to come out to because it is absolutely free. The instruction they get will be of the kind that you really would have to pay a considerable amount of money to receive in other areas.”
He said that those who attend Tuesday’s event will have the opportunity to attend a number of different workshops covering a variety of important topics.
Workshops will include marketing yourself using social media, searching for a job after 40, interviewing skills, and how to succeed at a job fair, said Pitts.
Also, attendees will have the opportunity to receive hands-on assistance in developing their own social media pages, creating personal business cards for their job search, and developing their own 30-second “commercial” to market themselves for new career opportunities.
Job seekers will also be able to brush up on their interview skills by participating in mock interviews and having their resumes reviewed.
In addition, a number of workforce resource agencies will be there to assist the job-seekers, including representatives from the Department of Labor’s Veteran Services.
Besides the valuable information, Pitts said those attending this pre-job fair event Tuesday will benefit in another way if they attend the Currahee Campus Job Fair on September 27th.
“People who come to this event will receive a ticket to be admitted a little early to the job fair on the 27th,” said Pitts.
Again, the Northeast Georgia Talent Attraction Kickoff is taking place Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lavonia.
