A Northeast Georgia state legislator is now serving on a national committee.

State Representative Alan Powell has been chosen by State House Speaker David Ralston to serve on the National Conference of State Legislatures Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee, or NCSL.

NCSL is a nationwide bipartisan organization that seeks to:
1. Improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures.
2. Promote policy innovation and communication among state legislatures.
3. Ensure state legislatures a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system.

The Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee is one of eight standing committees that educates Congress and federal agencies about state concerns and serves as a forum for state legislators and legislative staff.

In particular, this committee has jurisdiction over state and federal energy, environment, agriculture and transportation programs, legislation, regulations and policies.

Powell said he is pleased to have been selected to serve for the 2017-2018 session.
