April 28, 2015

Two North Carolina men, charged with an armed robbery Sunday in Commerce, are now behind bars.

The pair allegedly robbed the Valero Convenience store off Exit 147 about 1p Sunday afternoon.

Their arrests came a short time later when Georgia State Patrol Troopers pulled over a yellow Ford Mustang on I-85, according GSP Post 52 Assistant Commander Matt Baxley.

Baxley said troopers were waiting for the Mustang after a look out was placed on the vehicle.

“We received information that vehicle was traveling north on I-85,” Baxley said. “Troopers Roger Fuller and Trooper Nick Johnson positioned themselves where they could monitor traffic that was traveling north on I-85 and they located the vehicle. With the assistance of the Franklin County Sheriff’s office they conducted a felony traffic stop on it.”

Baxley said during the traffic stop, both the driver and the passenger were identified as the suspects involved in the armed robbery.  He said the driver of the vehicle faces additional charges.

“The driver and passenger were both arrested. The passenger was taken to the Commerce PD. The driver was taken to the Franklin County Sheriff’s office for charges pending including, driving on suspended license, possession of marijuana and DUI.  He will then be taken to Commerce to face charges of armed robbery,” Baxley said.

The driver is identified as Carl Lamont Garrett, age unknown, of North Carolina.  The passenger is identified as Shahed Raisuam Scott, age unknown also of North Carolina.

Baxley said money and a handgun were found in the vehicle.
