Polls Open at 7 a.m. for Presidential Primary in Stephens Co.

Stephens County and Georgia voters will make their voices heard in the 2016 Presidential race today.

Today is Presidential Preference Primary Day in Georgia.

Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran said polls will be open all day today in Stephens County.

“Polls open at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.,” said Cochran. “All registered voters in Stephens County vote at the Senior Center on Rose Lane.”

There is no voting today at the Courthouse Annex, as all voters casting ballots today will do at the Stephens County Senior Center.

Cochran said voters headed to the Senior Center to vote today need to remember a couple of things.

“All voters must have a valid driver’s license or another valid state or federal-issued photo ID to be able to vote and when they vote, because this is a primary, they have to pick the party of the candidate that they are going to vote for,” said Cochran.

That means voters will choose either a Republican or a Democratic ballot.

Voters have actually had a number of weeks to cast a ballot as there were about three weeks of early voting in Stephens County.

Cochran said early voting went well with no major problems.

“We had a tremendous turnout,” said Cochran. “2058 voters, 500 of those came in on Friday afternoon. We have probably a 20 percent turnout of registered voters in early voting.”

Also, Cochran said today is the last day to turn in mail-in, paper absentee ballots.

He said those actually need to be turned in by 11 a.m. today to the Registrar’s Office.
