Police Make Arrest in Pawn Shop Theft

Two people face charges in Toccoa in connection with an alleged theft from an area pawn shop.

Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell said that officers responded to a pawn shop on West Currahee Street at about 4:30 p.m. on March 10 in connection to the alleged theft.

“Once officers arrived, they met with the pawn shop owner, who showed the officers video surveillance,” said Jarrell, who said the suspect was shown on tape shoplifting four handguns, a .22 caliber rifle, and an X-Box.

“You can see him enter and leave the business at least twice, going to his vehicle, putting items in his vehicle, and going back in,” added Jarrell.

An investigation led authorities to 21-year-old Danny Lee Henson of Rock Quarry Road, Toccoa, who was arrested and charged with Felony Theft by Taking.

Also arrested was 22-year-old Cory Antonio Hilton of Hilton Hollow Drive in Toccoa. He was charged with Conspiracy to Commit a Felony as Party to a Crime.

Hilton was released on bond, but Henson remains in custody at last report, being held on unrelated charges.

Jarrell said that police, with the help of the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and an agent from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, were able to recover the .22 caliber rifle and two of the handguns that were stolen, along with the X-Box.

However, Jarrell said the investigation continues and so does the search for the other handguns that were taken.

“The police department, with assistance of the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, is still searching for the other two handguns,” said Jarrell. “Anyone with any information or who has recently purchased a handgun from an individual should contact Sgt. Jimmy Mize at the Toccoa Police Department.”
