Planning Underway for Veterans Day Ceremony

Stephens County will mark Veterans Day next month and organizers are looking for community participation again this year.

The American Legion Post 104, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4346, and Marine Corps League Currahee Mountain Detachment 1303 are inviting all civic and patriotic organizations to participate in the county’s 2014 Veterans Day’ Ceremony.

That ceremony will be held on November 11 at 11 a.m. on the lawn of the historic Stephens County Courthouse in downtown Toccoa.

Again this year, the program will include special honors by other patriotic and civic organizations in recognition of veterans and active duty military.

American Legion Post 104 Adjutant William Tucker said they are requesting clubs and organizations wishing to participate to choose a way they would like to honor veterans.

“We are looking for all of the civic organizations and patriotic organizations that have participated in the past or want to participate this year to do something in honor of veterans,” said Tucker. “If you would like to donate a flag, or something to the JROTC or Civil Air Patrol, those types of things. That is what we are looking for.”

Tucker said public recognition will be given to those groups that participate in this way during the November 11th Veterans’ Day program and those groups will also be listed in the printed program provided the organizations notify organizers of their plans to participate no later than Friday, November 7.
