Crews are expected to start a street re-surfacing project in the city of Toccoa today, weather permitting.
The city of Toccoa said that weather permitting, crews will begin paving work on Fern Valley Drive today.
Fern Valley Drive is the first of a number of streets that the city plans to have paved this Summer and Fall using money from the Georgia DOT, as well as SPLOST funds.
City commissioners approved the list of streets to be paved earlier this year.
That list includes Fern Valley Drive, Fern Valley Circle, Wesley Drive, Beaverbrook Circle, Foxdale Drive, Foxdale Circle, Foxdale Court, Malik Drive, Crestwood Drive, Andrews Street, Alexander Street South, Bell Street, Central Street, Cross Creek Drive, Diagonal Street, Frankie Fleming Street, Grove Street, Henderson Street, Highland Avenue, Oak Street, Short Street, Spring Street East, Tallulah Street South, Whitman Street East, and Whitman Street West.
Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said the city came up with the list of streets by grading all of the roads in the city from poor to excellent condition and then putting as many of the poor condition roads on the list as possible.
C.W. Matthews of Marietta is doing the paving work for the city at a cost of just over $940,000.
The work is expected to be completed later this year.
