The Georgia State Patrol said a Stephens County woman was not transported for medical treatment after a two-vehicle accident over the weekend in Habersham County that resulted in the death of a Clarkesville man.
According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, 28-year-old Melissa Wallace of Eastanollee was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima that was hit by a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle Saturday afternoon on Riverbend Road in Habersham County.
The driver of the motorcycle, identified by the Georgia State Patrol as 21-year-old Forest Garrett of Clarkesville, was killed in the wreck.
The GSP said that both vehicles were traveling west on Riverbend Road just before 5 p.m. Saturday when the motorcycle attempted to pass the Nissan in a double-yellow no passing zone.
At that time, the GSP said the Nissan attempted to turn left into a private residence.
As it turned, troopers said the motorcycle hit the Nissan in the driver’s side.
After hitting the Nissan, the GSP said the motorcycle overturned, went off the road, and struck some landscape bushes before coming to a stop.
Meanwhile, the GSP said the Nissan went off the road as well, striking a 911 sign post and some landscape bushes before coming to rest.
A passenger on the motorcycle, 23-year-old Kelli Campbell of Clarkesville, was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with what the GSP reported as lower extremity injuries.
